FINAL FOUR at a close for HATCH DETROIT contest~ ROUND 2 RECAP!
Looking back on the last few months, I find myself grateful and proud to have come this far. From July, when the concept of WORKROOM was just a twinkle in my eye, to now being in the last hours of the competition. All along, before the concept was created, it was always a reflection: the every day of my fashion business and those who I already know and love for who they are. Great and wonderfully talented people. So far, life is good. A few bumps in any path is to be found at times, but hope has always been the motivator of persistence, the support we have received by the people of Detroit and community of creatives here, has us feeling we have already won. The response from the public and those involved in the competition, tells us we are on the path to a greater place. The place where Detroit could see it's first Garment District business, and the space within that place can grow and allow an industry to thrive. Getting this far, in this competition, in life, in craft, ALL reinforces how our roles, especially how WORKROOM, ultimately affects the people and places in Detroit.

Every one in the WORKROOM crew and Detroit, is doing what they love, and their product show it. All of us in the WORKROOM crew, have been making unique things and working together for some time now. From forward thinking design concepts and techniques, to fun ways to exhibit and sell our goods, WORKROOM lends to the diversity of business that should be found in Downtown Detroit. A Garment District business is what we offer and we feel that Capitol Park will be the perfect setting for our commerce in Detroit, and an opportunity for us to grow within.

:::WORKROOM CREATIVE DIRECTOR ON THE AIRWAVES WITH CRAIG FAHLE:::101.9WDET:::DETROIT and THE WORKROOM go one on one:::
I had a nice time sitting across the booth from Detroit's Finest Radio Personality and Journalist! I really enjoyed putting the headphones on and waiting for my cue to be grilled and skilled by the man himself. His questions were great, and he expressed that WORKROOM is a unique concept that really captured his interest in learning more about. Before I type too much more, just take a listen as I, the Creative Director of WORKROOM talks the talk with Craig!

The DAMSEL IN DETROIT does it again!

Hoda Salameh(right) with her bestie, Oksana Mirzovan |
Hoda has been known about town to be assistant stylist, and now stylist, for Styleline Magazine, and most recently, has been known to attend major Fashion Week shows and events, in NY. Please take a moment to check out her blog, and see all the fabulousness that I am unable to express in these words.
A few weeks back, Hoda, was offered a Guest Blog opp, for Living Embellished, and her mission was to shine a light on all things Fashion born and bred in Detroit. From Designers, like Joe Faris, shop owners like Tender, Linda Dresner, City Bird, Chi Chi and the Greek, Detroit Vintage and others, she definitely shares a chic scope of where to find style around the D. It is a pleasure to be highlighted amongst such fabulous people and places.

Styleline Magazine and Art Van Collab next week!!

There were 8 of us chosen, some which I know, some of which I have yet to meet, but I must acknowledge I am amongst a very high calibur of Detroit based Designers, who are all such an example of the professionalism and creativity needed to pursue a career in Design.
Art Van and Styleline Mag were very nice, to provide us designers the opportunity to compete in a attendee voted contest for which designer is favored amongst the crowd. With that favorite designer, chosen that eve, will become the proud recipient of a $2000 gift card, provided by Art Van, for a Studio Improvement Project. What a dream that would be!?!! To finally get the right kind of table height to eliminate some of the damage to my lower back that has developed over these years in the studio.
Please take a moment to check out the fellow designers I will be sharing the stage with:

International Academy of Design & Technology has done it again!!! The other evening, ROYAL OAK MUSIC THEATRE was full of fans, family, and friends, of the current student showcasers.
Hosting us that evening, was the lovely, Miss Michigan USA Channing Pierce, who is on her way to the MISS USA pageant coming up.
(Click here to vote for her in this year's competition)
Her partner in crime that evening was William Malcolm, a very sophisticated and community supporter of many different organizations around the Metro Detroit Area.

The runway was filled with unique and interesting designs, that were all fashion forward thinking! I am happy to see the Academy continue to support and produce these fashion starlets, and I am very excited to see the students work even after they graduate.
I am very lucky to have an IADT student, Tracy Goss, as my current assistant! She is so attentive, detail-oriented, and her sewing skills are impeccable. She is definitely one of my faves to date, and I am sad to only have her for such a short period of time!
Hopefully, I one day can bring her on full time, since in this business: what you design is just as important as the team you gather to effectively implement your brand into the business!

BUBBLEGUM VODKA: A night full of popcorn, laughs, and holding branches....
On a cold January night!! I was lucky enough to get together with some amazing and talented friends and share some bubblegum vodka. Lynn (photographer), Alex, Kyle and I all set up photo shoot shop inside a large and beautiful home in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Alex was gracious enough to bring some fabulous hats she has been collecting over the years, I brought lovely Gauntlet gloves, and Glass Rings made by the most fab glass man in Detroit, Drew Kups. It was a night full of popcorn, laughs, holding branches, and most importantly a last night we would all be together. Kyle was a gem of an individual, smart, curious, and a lover of the fashion world, as he was seen to walk many runways in Detroit via one of my besties, Sarah Lapinski's lablel Wound Menswear, and others such as Shei Magazine from Ann Arbor.

My most favorite image from that night was the opportunity for Alex and Kyle, best friends since birth practically, to take a lovely picture together for one of the very last times. Please view Lynn's blog for a beautiful story written by Alexandra herself, to her most beloved friend of a lifetime! RIP Kyle Holton~ you will forever be missed.
Peace and Love to you and all those you love, before it one day can become too late.
ciao xx

New Beginning ahead in 2011
Well, everyone, if you don't know, this should clear up any confusion and set you straight.
Most would think that Versace, himself, died by the gasps, oohs and awwws I keep hearing...
Yes, Femilia is no longer, but the possibilities from here forward are endless! I am super excited to get my hands even more dirty in this fashion business and see exactly what I am made of~
I definitely made a huge impact on the localized Fashion scene around the Detroit Metropolitan area, and currently am thrilled to even have been added to the Board Member roster for Fashion Group International, Inc Detroit Chapter From newspapers, weeklies, and magazine, everyone was so great to show and speak great words of support that definitely gives us the confidence to move forward from this point forward.
So, why Fotoula Lambros Design? Well, first and foremost, Fotoula is my real name, not Fay, nor Fay Fay, and I definitely want to be known for that which is exactly what I am. Myself. Also, note to self, it should be a sure way no one would ever spell my name wrong, which has been the biggest, most fashionable trend in Detroit over the history of Femilia. So my new, self titled, Independent design label, is going to be a very exciting and promising opportunity for me to see what I am truly capable of! It is going to be such a gift to move forward with complete creative freedom and vision, and the clarity in me as a designer can be smelled and felt from a mile away.
What to expect from FLD in 2011....Well, to kick off the year, production begins on a Fall.Winter 2011-12 Collection and all the preliminary steps have been taken...As of January 1, 2011, I will be in full swing of my new creative business venture that is completely focused on sustain ability in Fashion and Design, and I am more than ready.
For a direct link to up to the minute happening and such, find me on Facebook, or Tweet me @Fo2la
